The Mission of the church usher ministry is ultimately to help guests and parishioners feel welcomed and experience the sacredness and joy of worshipping God during mass at St Joseph Parish.
Ushers should always be aware of any special assistance individuals with disabilities may need entering or leaving the church. Rear chairs can be removed to specifically accommodate wheelchairs.
Ushers should invite a family or couple to take up the offertory gifts and assist when the time comes for the offertory procession. At collection time, the ushers should proceed forward, genuflect in unison and pass the collection baskets within the pews.
At Communion, the ushers should stand discreetly and reverently at the front of the isle as people return their pews to ensure that the consecrated Host is consumed.Attempt to connect with unfamiliar guests and make them feel welcome and inquire if they are new to the area and what brings them to the parish.
We are always looking for ushers to serve at all masses at St Joseph Parish.
